OYE's mission

The long-term mission of Organise Your Exchange is to:

“make cultural exchange experiences accessible to all high school students, regardless of their background, country of origin, or financial situation”

This is rooted in three key beliefs:

Direct contact between people from different cultures is incredibly important for developing an understanding of the world and a tolerance towards others. Leaving your comfort zone to live in a new environment shows you how people everywhere are both different and similar. This insight helps reduce the anxiety many people feel when faced with a world with so many different peoples, cultures, and customs, and lets you meet the world and its diversity head on.
Exchange-based, as opposed to money-based, interactions are one of the best ways to create meaningful connections across cultural and language divides. Working together towards common goals can quickly create bonds between strangers, and shared enthusiasm and a willingness to learn can make much stronger motivators than money.
These experiences can benefit anyone, regardless of their social or financial situation, and should therefore be accessible to anyone who is willing to put in the effort. The current available options for exchange are simply not accessible to the majority of students.
